Albany’s Vancouver Art Centre in Western Australia is set to come to life this December with the help of two young project co-ordinators Steven Christie and Kaitlyn Seymour, who are at the forefront of an exciting project designed to encourage and strengthen Albany’s talented, young emerging visual artists.

From The Brink – A Collection of Ink is an amazing opportunity for emerging artists or arts enthusiasts between the ages of 16 – 21 to work alongside other young creative’s and professional artists to develop their skills and have their work shown publicly.

A series of laid back workshops will be held at Albany’s Vancouver Arts Centre during the month of December 2009.

Focused solely on the theme of ink, From The Brink will aim to further develop and enhance the skills of young artists. The project co-ordinators have chosen professional artists Sandy O’Doherty, Sue Codee and Trish Ware to show participants new skills and techniques, as well as to provide a valuable insight into the creation of their own works.

“I am looking forward to working with this talented group of young artists. We will be collaborating on a huge 10 meter scroll for the exhibition”, said Sue Codee who will attend the first three workshops, focused on utilising ink and technology to create an installation piece for the exhibition on November 30th, December 1st and December 2nd.

Other artists employed  include Trish Ware who will be showing participants techniques in using ink in its many forms on December 7th, 8th and 9th, and Sandy O’Doherty who will focus on the fundamentals of illustration using ink on the 14th, 15th, and 16th of December.

From The Brink boasts a non-structured environment where participants are able to work at their own pace and engage as they wish. At the conclusion of the nine sessions, participants will have built up a collection of ink drawings to be displayed at an exhibition which will open at the Vancouver Arts Centre on January 14th.
